Zayo serves wireless and wireline carriers, media, tech, content, finance, healthcare and other large enterprises.Position DescriptionAn Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing and participating in the day to day functions of a team of highly skilled and technical engineers. A good candidate will have experience managing technical teams of up to 10 individuals in size. Strong project management and organization skills are a must to thrive in this role. Ability to communicate effectively and articulate technical information is a huge plus. This individual will be proficient in routing and switching fundamentals as well have experience with a broad list of network hardware. The team for which this position is responsible for performs a variety of critical functions in the operation of our Tier 1 IP and Ethernet backbone. Day to day functions of this team include, but are not limited to:* Create and deploy Maintenance Requests for after-hours network augments* Engineer is responsible for managing and completing projects as assigned in a timely manner. Majority of projects will be related to new service engineering, but special projects may include network audits, network configuration/inventory verification, the creation of network tools & reports, and other projects as assigned.* Engineer will be responsible for creating and updating network documentation and drawings. Candidate should have strong Visio and written skills. Candidate should be detail oriented and a great deal of attention to detail and accuracy.* Coordinate moving deploy-able equipment between markets and maintain accurate stocking levels. Replenish inventory as stocking levels pass thresholds to ensure equipment availability for the growth of production network.Responsibilities* Project Management: The manager is responsible for defining new projects, managing workload across the team, and overseeing on schedule completion. The candidate will need to provide regular updates to leadership on key projects and initiatives. This individual should have a bias towards action when working through problems or challenges that may arise.* Team Management: Ability to closely monitor levels of productivity and performance across the team. Provide regular feedback to employees and management on the team of priorities and performance. Manage workload effectively across all team members. Take part in personnel decisions to include hiring/firing, compensation, and roles/responsibilities.* Technical Training: As a technical manager, this candidate is responsible for supporting and cross-training members of Zayo's engineering and support staff. This includes identifying areas of need, compiling training documentation, and delivering training courses.* Network Documentation: As Engineering Manager, this individual will be responsible for making sure that network documentation is accurate and current. Ability to work with others to improve documentation as needed.* Network Performance Management: Candidate will work with all network operations teams to insure optimal performance of the network. Manager will be responsible for escalations to other teams as needed to resolve underlying system/technology problems e.g. wavelength or fiber infrastructure.* Vendor Management: Serves as liaison for vendor related issues & escalations. Review Vendor Bulletins (PCNs), publish impact statements, and create plans for implementation of PCNs if applicable and in the best interests of the company. Track open issues with vendors to resolution and provide regular readouts on open vendor issues and recommendations for upgrades or removal / replacement of vendor technologies.* Network Maintenance Support: Candidate will be responsible for assisting with creation of network maintenance activities as well as addressing customer related escalations that may arise from these activities in regards to level of impact, scheduling, etc. Manager may also be asked to assist in high profile after hour maintenance activity as needed. Flexible schedule to support these activities as needed is a must.Qualifications* Bachelor of Science degree (B. S.) or equivalent from four-year University or technical school and 5 to 8 years related experience* Candidate will have minimum of 2 years in a team leadership role overseeing technical engineering level teams.* Working knowledge of the Layer 2 and Layer3 networking including STP, G.8032, MPLS/VPLS, and VLANs.* Strong understanding of Microsoft Office and Visio as these applications are critical for day to day functions.* Comfortable working with equipment such as Cisco, Juniper, Accedian, Cyan and other carrier-class Ethernet hardware.* Great organization skills are a must.* Knowledge of the MEF service specifications and terminology is a huge plus.Rewards* Competitive compensation* Base salary range: $78,113-$84,995 * Full-time Zayo employees are also eligible for discretionary quarterly short-term and long-term incentive cash bonuses which are based on the performance of the Company, an employee's business segment, and the individual employee* Excellent benefits including health, dental, vision, 401 (k), disability and life insurance* Fitness membership discounts* Generous paid time off policy including paid parental leave
