Diseases unit is strengthening its efforts in revolutionizing the
lives of people living with rare diseases and is hiring an
Associate Director OR Director, Therapeutic Innovation for the
recently created Strategic Innovation Unit. The core responsibility
of this role is to scout and evaluate innovative therapeutic
modalities emerging from academic and research institutes, start-up
and early-stage biotech organizations, including via venture
capital, that may provide long-term solutions for patients with
rare diseases. Seeking Associate Director OR Director of
Therapeutic Innovation to join this team's rare disease business
unit, based in Boston. This role will be responsibile for
scientific due diligence on potential products to bring into the
portfolio and making recommendations on such to senior leadership.
You:
- 7+ years relevant pharm/biotech experience
- MD or biomedical PhD is a plus
- Experience in cell therapy, gene therapy, CAR T, mRNA and other
innovative, rare diseases
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong scientific acumen
- Ability to identify and prioritize opportunities, evaluate
risks, develop a SCIENTIFIC case for innovative therapeutic
modalities and effectively frame recommendations for leadership
team
- Location preferentially Boston or Toronto, but will consider
remote candidates as wellRESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the design and implementation of
methodologies/algorithms for the systematic assessment of
innovative therapeutic modalities, which should include customer
needs, breadth of modality, stage of development, potential for
safety & efficacy, industrial maturity of technology, business
model and financial sustainability, market analysis, competitive
analysis, regulatory risks, sensitivities and key areas of
uncertainty, timelines for marketing and patients'
accessibility
- Responsible for a holistic prioritization strategy of new
therapeutic modalities that could have the greatest value to GRD
business and how they could be integrated into the GRD R&D
model
- Provide market landscape and therapy areas overviews to support
strategy and trade off decisions across potential development
portfolio
- Collaborate with the company internal stakeholders including
R&D, finance, IP, legal, and project management, to create
partnerships and synergy of common outcomes
- Attend conferences, participate in scientific/clinical
congresses to keep abreast of new information relevant to
breakthrough innovative therapies
- Build bridges and maintain close relationships with academic
institutions, accelerators, entrepreneurs, industry and the venture
capital community to promote GRD as the partner of
choiceREQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors required. MD or biomedical PhD is very strongly
preferred
- 7+ years experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
and preferably with hands-on pre-clinical, clinical or
translational development experience. Expertise on innovative
therapeutic modalities, e.g., cell or gene therapy preferred
- Strong patient focus and track record of interest in rare
diseases
- Strong, intuitive, and analytical abilities with significant
aptitude for complex scientific discussions
- Ability to identify and prioritize opportunities, evaluate
risks, develop a scientific case for innovative therapeutic
modalities and effectively frame recommendations for leadership
team
- Desire to be part of team, and ability to work collaboratively
with a wide variety of internal and external constituencies
Collaborate with the company internal stakeholders including
R&D, finance, IP, legal, and project management, to create
partnerships and synergy of common outcomes
- Ability to influence others in a tactful and well-thought-out
manner with supporting information and logic
- Very results oriented
- Superior oral presentation and written communication
skills
- Ability to interact within an international organization with
multicultural approach
- Valid passport and ability to travel domestically and
internationally 20-30% of the time
- Personally accountable, high integrity
- Preferentially Boston or Toronto, will consider strong
candidates based elsewhere
