Job Description:
The Structural Engineering Manager (SEM) is an experienced licensed
Engineer responsible for overseeing a team of engineering staff in
commercial projects. The SEM provides leadership, ensures contract
compliance, offers technical guidance, and directs production
personnel. This role is pivotal in ensuring projects are completed
on-time, on/under budget, and in line with FSB's quality standards.
Additionally, the SEM directs the implementation of improved
discipline production tools, standards, and processes and
coordinates processes with the Discipline Director.Throughout the
project lifecycle, the SEM guides engineering projects through
various phases, including Design Development, Construction
Documents, and Construction Administration. They collaborate with
the Design Manager during Pre-Design and Schematic Design phases to
align the design vision and intent with the project team, while
also liaising with Project Managers to meet client
expectations.Team Responsibilities:
Oversees a team of engineers and
technicians handling a variety of projects.Schedules work
assignments and manages team resources, leveraging internal metrics
to assist with identifying needs and overall team
performance.Assists team members with high-level project
tasks.Ensures compliance with contract document preparation and
development.Executes and coordinates projects of various sizes and
complexities.Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the
team and firm.Performs employee evaluations within their team
assignments.Improves standards, procedures, or processes related to
overall team performance.Supervisory Responsibilities:
Communicates employee successes and
challenges to the Director of Engineering.Motivates and empowers
team members to deliver on commitments and goals, providing support
to overcome challenges and obstacles.Leads team resources
effectively, maintaining or improving project metrics.Contributes
to project time estimates and execution plans.Facilitates open and
direct communication within the team.Regularly communicates with
Project Managers to address project escalations and
opportunities.Ensures the team maintains organization and
completeness in project tasks.Initiates positive changes and
oversees Office Quality Assurance/Control Plan.Manages team
communications, both internally and externally.Required Skills:
Ability to present technical and
design solutions to clients, Subconsultants, and Authorities Having
Jurisdiction.Collaborates closely with Project Managers to execute
project plans.Supervises the team's design and contractual delivery
in coordination with Project Managers.Provides support throughout
the project, from conceptual design to completion.Addresses
technical challenges and ensures constructability on team
projects.Works with Project Management, project staff, and
consultants.Represents the lead technical viewpoint on
projects.Coordinates with the Director of Engineering on technical
solutions and product strategies.Exhibits strong time management
skills and seeks to increase quality and efficiency.Proficiency in
Revit and RISA preferred.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
(Word and Excel).Knowledgeable in product options, performance,
selections, and writing technical specifications.Assists in
Independent Technical Reviews meeting the FSB Quality Control
process.Education and Experience:
Bachelor's and/or master's degree in
civil engineering or architectural engineering with a focus in
structures. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural
Engineer (SE) required.Minimum of 5 years of experience in
commercial projects, with 7 years preferred.
