Respiratory Care Practitioner License or Temporary letter to
practice Certifications: Certified/Registered Respiratory Therapist
credential through the National Board of Respiratory Care. Basic
Life Support certification from AHA within 2 months of hire.
Must-Have: 1 year of experience; BLS certified through AHA;
Critical Care experience. Description: The Licensed Respiratory
Therapist assesses, implements, and evaluates the delivery of
respiratory care services. The position utilizes processes in
accordance with established standards and department policies for
monitoring and evaluating patient status. Responsibilities include
assessing and delivering care to patients in non-critical care
areas. Care delivery considers patient age, cultural, and
psychosocial factors. The therapist performs computer entry,
verifies physician orders, and documents pertinent clinical
information. Provision of accurate documentation in the medical
record is required. Effective care to patients in critical care
areas is part of the role. Mechanical ventilation, both invasive
and non-invasive, is provided while monitoring and measuring
patient parameters. The therapist attends to ventilator maintenance
and setting changes, monitoring patient response to these changes.
Documentation in the medical record must be accurate and in
accordance with policy. Effective communication with the healthcare
team is essential. Professional judgment in response to changing
patient or departmental situations must be demonstrated. As
indicated, tasks may be delegated and supervised among appropriate
staff members. Respect for patients' rights should be acknowledged
and demonstrated. Effective relationships with patients, their
families, and medical staff are established. Positive customer
service skills are utilized consistently. Communication updates
with the department must be maintained. Support for departmental
goals is expected by attending in-services and meeting education
standards. Organizing, prioritizing, and performing skills
appropriate for the patient population is essential. Anticipating
patient and departmental needs is required. Additional duties may
be assigned. Timely responses to emergency situations are expected.
Participation in mentoring of new personnel is included. Monitoring
quality and appropriateness of patient care is part of the role.
Active participation in projects aimed at improving patient
outcomes is encouraged. Independent judgment in planning operations
and minor decision-making in a complex field is required.
Activities of others may be coordinated, but supervision is not
part of the role. The therapist is expected to work directly with
patients and internal and external customers. Interaction with
other healthcare professionals and staff is included in the
