About the Position Job Title: Licensed Respiratory Therapist
Profession: Clinical Professional Specialty: Respiratory Therapy
Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7p-7a, every other weekend rotation Hours
per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Zero (0) to six (6) months of
related experience License: Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner
License or temporary letter to practice issued by the Medical Board
Certifications: Certified/Registered Respiratory Therapist
credential through the National Board of Respiratory Care. Basic
Life Support certification from AHA within 2 months of hire.
Must-Have: 1 year of experience; BLS certified; Critical Care;
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit experience Description: The Licensed
Respiratory Therapist assesses, implements, and evaluates the
delivery of respiratory care services according to established
standards and policies. Responsibilities include delivering care
and interventions to patients while considering age, cultural, and
psychosocial factors. The therapist performs computer entry,
verifies orders, and documents clinical information accurately.
Effective care is provided in both non-critical and critical care
areas. Mechanical ventilation is provided, along with monitoring
and measuring patient responses to settings. Ventilator maintenance
and setting changes are performed as necessary. Clear documentation
in the medical record is essential according to policy. Effective
communication with the healthcare team is required. Professional
judgment must be demonstrated in response to changing patient or
departmental situations. As indicated, appropriate tasks are
delegated and supervised among staff. Respect for patients' rights
is acknowledged and demonstrated. Effective relationships with
patients, families, and medical staff are established using
positive customer service skills. Communication updates with the
department must be maintained consistently. Support for
departmental goals is demonstrated by attending in-services and
meeting education standards. Skills must be organized, prioritized,
and performed appropriately for the patient population.
Anticipation of patient and departmental needs is necessary.
Participation in code blues, critical calls, and timely transport
is required. Mentoring of new personnel is part of the role.
Quality and appropriateness of patient care are monitored. Active
participation in projects and processes designed to improve patient
outcomes is expected. Independent judgment is required in planning
operations and making decisions. Coordination of activities of
others is conducted without formal supervision. The therapist works
directly with patients and customers, both internally and
externally, through various forms of interaction. Collaboration
with other healthcare professionals and staff is essential.
