SIGN-ON BONUS: $10,000 Sign ($2,000 after 30 days, $2,000 after 60 days, and $6,000 after 90 days)
SUMMARY:
Supervise waste to energy plant operations and its personnel while fostering an environment of safety, environmental stewardship, customer commitment, as well as meeting production goals. As a leadership role, this person must be able to direct their team through mentoring and coaching to develop excellence in the operation of the facility. The Shift Supervisor will review, prioritize and direct the daily work activities of the operations group during their assigned shift. They will assist coordinating the activities of operations and maintenance personnel during scheduled and unscheduled shutdowns. The Shift Supervisor maintains and enforces company policies and procedures and provides training to their assigned staff. Support the development of operating procedures and instructions; assist in the evaluation and development of recommendations for plant improvements. Confer with representatives of other departments in solving interrelated administrative, organizational, and technical problems.
Duties/responsibilities:
Supervise a group of employees in the Operations Department such as, Control Room Operator, Assistant Control Room Operator, Boiler Operator, Auxiliary Operators (I and II), Utility Operators, Equipment Operators, Tipping Floor Operators and temporary laborers and contractors.
Supervise operations of waste to energy plant systems including but not limited to: refuse stokers, steam generation/boiler systems, condensate, feedwater, turbine/generator, circulating/cooling water systems, service/potable water, fuel handing, ash handling, electrical distribution, fire protection, and air pollution control systems.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Covanta Pinellas policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Troubleshoots and resolves operational problems. Able to use proper judgment and procedures during a causality event for the safety of the facility and all personnel.
Reads and interprets DCS, CEMS, and local indications, meters, gauges, recorders, and annunciators to determine system operating conditions. Takes proper action and directs proper response within prescribed normal and emergency operating procedures when needed.
During emergency or unusual situations, the shift supervisor shall direct or if necessary, personally perform the required operations or corrective actions as well as coordinating the activities of all personnel involved. The Shift Supervisor shall also assure that proper outside assistance is dispatched to the facility in the cases where first responders are required.
Responsible for the administration of the Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) program. Approve all requests for removing equipment from service for maintenance, or other purposes and for ensuring the equipment is properly cleared and tagged safely in accordance with facility procedures.
Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly safety and operational meetings for shift operators.
Serve as emergency coordinator in the absence of the Facility/Department Manager.
Ensure that personnel under his/her direction complete all required training for their position within the assigned timelines.
Delegate duties to shift personnel for proper operation and housekeeping of the facility to maintain environmental compliance and operational production goals.
Assist coordinating the activities of operations and maintenance personnel during scheduled and unscheduled shutdowns.
Support the development of operating procedures and instructions; assist in the evaluation and development of recommendations for plant improvements
Direct their team through mentoring and coaching to develop excellence in the operation of the facility.
Review, prioritize and direct the daily work activities of the operations group during their assigned shift.
Confer with representatives of other departments and facility management, in solving interrelated administrative, organizational, and technical problems.
Perform other duties as directed by the Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager.
Requirements (Education, Skills, Certificates, Licenses, Experience):
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
ASME QRO Operator Site Specific Certification (License) required within 1 year.
Associates Degree or equivalent in technical training with 5 years power or resource recovery plant experience. Including hands-on and/or supervisory expertise with high pressure boilers and electric generation equipment.
Knowledge in plant electrical distribution system, turbine generator operations, boiler operations, air pollution control equipment, CEMS, and MSW combustion.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general administrative periodicals, rules, technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, regulations, and other procedure manuals.
Ability to write reports and correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and subordinates.
Ability to motivate employees, maintain high morale and get along with people.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to speak and communicate effectively with management, other supervisors, and other personnel during shift.
Ability to direct work of others
Ability to read and interpret P&ID's.
Ability to interpret CEMs and COMs real time and recorded data averages.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Ability to ensure that all personnel on shift follow Covanta safety rules.
Ability to log onto a computer, complete online assigned training, and ensure that personnel under direction complete their training.
