And you can too, so bring your energy to ours!The Senior Counsel - Employment Law is responsible for providing legal advice, opinions and support to help work towards our goals in addition to initiating and supervising project case management to ensure their timely and efficient completion. As a specialist, this role will provide advice and recommendations for action to leaders regarding sophisticated matters with meaningful impact on business activities and operations. The ability to use good judgment, collaborate with others and develop and obtain approvals from senior leaders for situation specific strategies and approaches are keys to success.Your work will challenge you, and with our Core Values to guide you, you'll quickly learn and grow with us.A Day in the Life:As an employment law specialist, you will partner with leaders at all levels, HR centers of expertise, HR business partners, and ethics professionals to provide balanced counsel and guidance. You will advise internal clients in a proactive, timely, and accurate manner on the full range of employment-related issues, including internal investigations, contingent workers, recruitment and hiring, performance management, diversity and inclusion, affirmative action, federal contractor, leaves and accommodations, compensation, separations, acquisitions, wage and hour compliance, and other employment-related issues.The primary focus is to resolve issues in a balanced manner that minimizes risk and allows the company to manage its workforce. Additional work this role will be doing includes:

  • Guiding others and ensuring our compliance with labor and employment laws under federal, state, and local law, including anticipating emerging areas of employment law risk and proactively preparing clients for those changes through policy and process modifications
  • Providing legal advice and guidance in the design of policies, processes, procedures, and systems to ensure employment law compliance at all levels
  • Being responsible for employment-related litigation, arbitrations, demand letters, agency charges and investigations by direct involvement or in conjunction with outside counsel
  • Drafting, reviewing, and editing a wide variety of employment-related documents, including agreements, policies, procedures, forms, disciplinary and performance management documentation, company communications, and investigative reports
  • Serving as an expert resource for cross-functional teams and internal partners and supporting the company's critical initiatives impacting employeesResponsibilities/Expectations:
    • Identifies and assesses legal issues and risks for assigned area(s) of responsibility; recommends and initiates appropriate courses of action
    • Interacts with leadership regarding legal strategies, scenario plans, and desired outcomes
    • Negotiates contract terms, settlements, mediation and agreements; conducts all post-closing or settlement requirements
    • Retains and manages outside counsel in alignment with defined legal strategies
    • Leads department and enterprise initiatives
    • Researches legislative history and legal issues to ensure up-to-date knowledge and interpretation of laws, regulations, case precedents, court and regulatory orders
    • Monitors compliance with federal, state, and local laws and industry regulations; collaborates with appropriate parties for resolution
    • Provides training to business partners on applicable laws, regulations, procedures, risks and regulatory changes
    • Other duties as assignedEducation/Years of Experience:
      • Required: Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school; a minimum of ten (10) years' relevant legal or energy experience; member of State Bar Association and admitted to practice in the state hired, or eligible to become admitted in the state hired within one (1) year of date of hire, with current CLE compliance
      • Preferred: Juris Doctorate from ABA-accredited law school; a minimum of twelve (12) years' relevant legal or energy experienceShift/Work Hours/Travel Requirements:
        • Willing to travel up to 10%Other Requirements:
          • Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
          • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and PC skills
          • Experience in drafting of agency communications, contracts, motions, briefs, pleadings and opinions
          • Experience in legal research and analysis
          • Demonstrates objective and detailed analytical and problem solving abilities
          • Demonstrates negotiation skills

              • Retains and handles outside counsel
              • Monitors compliance with federal, state, and local laws and industry regulations; identifies potential ethical issues and advises appropriate parties for resolution
              • Other duties as assignedEducation/Years of Experience:
                • Required: Juris Doctorate from ABA accredited law school and a minimum of four (4) years' relevant legal expertise or experience in the energy industry; member of State Bar Association and admitted to practice in the state hired, or eligible to become admitted in the state hired within one (1) year of date of hire, with current CLE compliance
                • Preferred: Juris Doctorate from ABA accredited law school and a minimum of six (6) years' relevant legal expertise or experience in the energy industryShift/Work Hours/Travel Requirements:
