exciting hybrid opportunity for a Data Engineer II based in Fort
Smith, Arkansas. POSITION SUMMARY Summit Utilities is seeking a
Data Engineer II to design, develop, and optimize enterprise-grade
data pipelines and integration workflows across hybrid
environments. Engineers at this level are expected to work
independently on complex data solutions that involve structured and
semi-structured data across multiple systems. This role is
essential to delivering scalable, cost-efficient, and reliable data
infrastructure that supports reporting, analytics, and operational
needs across the business. Ideal candidates bring a preferred 3–8
years of experience, strong technical problem-solving skills, and a
deep understanding of data orchestration, transformation, and
integration within modern data environments. PRIMARY DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES Design and implement end-to-end data pipelines
that extract, transform, and load data across a variety of
enterprise systems. Optimize existing pipelines for performance,
cost efficiency (CU usage), and reliability within cloud
environments. Develop and maintain scalable transformation logic
for structured and semi-structured data (e.g., CSV, JSON, XML)
Implement error handling, alerting, and retry mechanisms in
pipelines to ensure system robustness and uptime. Collaborate with
Data Analysts and SAP Analysts to translate functional requirements
into technical designs and extraction logic. Support integration
with third-party systems via APIs, FTP/SFTP, or service connectors.
Contribute to source control and CI/CD workflows. Perform data
quality checks, build reconciliation logic, and ensure pipeline
health through automated logging and monitoring. Participate in
data platform design discussions, providing input on storage
models, partitioning strategies, and pipeline orchestration.
Participate in team standups, sprint planning, and code reviews to
contribute to project delivery. Document pipeline architecture,
business logic, and metadata dependencies to support
maintainability and cross-team understanding. Troubleshoot complex
data pipeline issues and provide advanced support for system
failures and data integrity concerns. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems,
Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination
of education and relevant experience will be considered. 3–8 years
of experience in data engineering, software development, or
ETL/integration roles preferred Proven experience designing and
maintaining pipelines using cloud based equivalent tools. Hands-on
experience developing with scripts for data movement,
transformation, and automation. Strong experience working with
relational databases, including query optimization and scripting.
Demonstrated experience working in a cloud environment and
integrating data from multiple enterprise systems. Familiarity with
source control practices and CI/CD workflows KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,
ABILITIES Strong proficiency with cloud services Skilled in writing
and maintaining custom data processing scripts. Deep understanding
of SQL, including complex joins, CTEs, performance tuning, and
stored procedure development. Familiarity with SAP data structures
and integrating SAP data into enterprise pipelines. Experience
designing resilient data workflows with built-in validation,
retries, and alerting. Knowledge cloud architecture, and data
transformation/staging strategies Solid grasp of API integrations,
flat file ingestion (CSV, JSON, XML), and secure data movement via
FTP/SFTP Ability to work independently and lead portions of project
development from planning through deployment. Strong documentation
habits and ability to communicate technical logic to teammates and
stakeholders. Proficiency with source control tools and
collaborative development practices Analytical mindset with a focus
on system reliability, scalability, and maintainability Friendly,
