Job Description:
Job DescriptionSummary Statement: Applies advanced technical
skills and knowledge to set up and operate conventional, special
purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers
to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. Essential Functions
and Key Responsibilities: Machines metallic and non-metallic
material to create parts for operational aircraft applications that
are moderately to complex requiring experience and judgment to
determine plans and action from standard procedural alternatives.
Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch
of part or product to be fabricated. Sets up and operates machine
on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed
control data. Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals,
specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and
tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup
requirements. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference
points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools,
attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills,
lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers. Calculates and sets
controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant
flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve,
input, or edit computerized machine control media. Starts and
observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or
out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control
media as required. Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to
specifications. Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms,
machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure
functionality and performance. Confers with engineers, production
personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly
problems. Ancillary Functions and Responsibilities: Performs other
duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job
classifications other than the primary assignment. POSITION
QUALIFICATIONS: MACHINIST A Formal Education, Training and Work
Experience: Experience may be substituted for the formal education
and training requirements in this section at the discretion of
management. Technical school and four (4) to seven (7) or more
years of machining in aircraft or related industry, or equivalent
combination of education and experience. Level of Supervision
Required: The level of supervision required described here is
representative of that which must be met by a Stakeholder to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Works
under general supervision. Work is reviewed for completion to
quality standards and schedule requirements. May adapt techniques
and tools to meet special needs with approval from management.
Special Skills, Licenses or Job Requirements: Demonstrate
competency in applying the following in performing normal job
duties. Loading and executing application programs for numerically
controlled machines. Working knowledge of the composition and
working properties of different types of metals used in the
aircraft industry. Special Training and Behavioral Competencies:
---Safety training as required by OSHA. ---Complete the required
NORDAM University training for all Stakeholders. ---Comply with The
NORDAM Group Leadership Competencies for Stakeholders. ---Ability
and willingness to assist and transfer technical knowledge to less
experienced Stakeholders. Physical RequirementsMust be able to work
in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if
required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division

the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is occasionally exposed to
moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or
